“Watching middle-class conservatives vote for politicians who’ve proudly pledged to screw them and their children over fills me with the same exasperated contempt I feel for rabbits who zigzag wildly back and forth in front of my tires instead of just getting off the goddamn road.” ~ Tim Kreider
It’s a breathtakingly beautiful autumn morning here in Southern Oregon. I’m proud of my kids, in love with my husband, content with my community of friends, and generally feeling blessed. Meanwhile….
I am furious with the elected officials of “our” United States of America.
I’m not a political activist, nor am I “expert” in this arena. What I am is an American citizen who shows up every day to do my job. Today as I work I am wondering: where in the world does someone get to walk away from their job, cost their communities millions of dollars on a daily basis, and essentially hold people hostage (three million, in this case) – without the consequence of getting one’s ass fired?
I want to rally. I want to figure out a way for we the 3 million to go on our own “walk out” so we can show THEM what it’s like. I want to be a part of a healthy nation that puts the WE before the ME. I want the people we all voted for to stop embarrassing us in front of the rest of the frigging world. I want there to be an election right now, so that we can fire the entitled THEM and move forward with a group of people who actually give a shit about the entire American nation and her people.
Ok. Time to go back to appreciating October.
