I suppose it would only be natural that the first door I would choose to paint would be one of character. If I had known where this old creature was going to take me, I would’ve taken photos of it then – as well as now. This door taught me that preparing an old canvas is no small task. Striping, sanding, and priming are all as important as one’s ability to wrestle with a large heavy piece of lumber and find a place in the small yard large enough to set up camp for three months of work. This side of the art came first: “beyond the window” was born early in the summer of 2009. It’s other side “she rises” came into being as the summer closed. I love this door; it’s images are as different as night and day….and yet – the connection between them is as real as the wood that joins them.
